Grizzly Bear’s Veckatimest is Rough Trade’s album of the month and I couldn’t agree more. Minimalist and sparse musical arrangements, grungey guitar progressions, ska-infused syncopated guitar stabs, ethereal lo-fi scuzz-sounding vocals, thunderous rolling drum patterns and sun-drenched samples reminiscent of a Carribean steel-drum ensemble ensure a chilled-out and trippy listen. Imagine MGMT, Abe Vigoda and Cold War Kids all rolled into one and you’ve just about sussed out this quirky little work of art.
